Probe care in practice: insights from a repair facility

18-02-2026

In an interview with the experts from Beyond Clean, Ash, a senior technician from Australian probe repair facility ProbeLogic, shares what he commonly sees when probes arrive for assessment, and how facilities can reduce avoidable issues.

“The challenge is that probes are used intensively and often across different teams,” Ash said. “Small issues can go unnoticed until they start affecting performance.”

Ash notes that probes are sometimes presented with questions about whether damage may be linked to a trophon® disinfection cycle. In his experience, these situations are most often related to handling.

“In the cases we’ve seen, issues are usually tied to how the probe was loaded or how the cable was positioned,” he said. “For example, if a cable is accidentally caught in the door, that can cause damage, but that comes down to the circumstances around use rather than the system.”

These insights reinforce the importance of compatibility, correct use, and consistent processes in supporting effective probe care.

Practical advice for keeping probes in good condition

Ash shared steps facilities can take to reduce preventable damage and maintain probe performance:

1. Follow the correct disinfection process: Refer to manufacturer compatibility guidance and use automated high-level disinfection where possible to support consistency.

2. Inspect your probes regularly: Early detection of punctures, cracks, or image issues can mean a simple repair rather than a complex one.

3. Accept that drops happen and check immediately: Prompt attention to minor defects can help prevent further deterioration.

4. Consider annual acoustic testing: Routine testing supports ongoing image quality and patient safety.
